Graffiti busting

You Said We Did iconJoint working between councils and the police is keeping a close eye on any graffiti problems that may spring up across the borough.

In a continued effort to maintain its 98% graffiti-free record, Community Safety Partners Kent Police and Swale Borough Council have been out and about with their graffiti-buster again – as part of their regular clean-up initiative.

A regular graffiti-busting cycle means that every two weeks, Street wardens visit areas across Faversham, Sittingbourne and the Isle of Sheppey where graffiti has been reported as a problem.  They use a high powered pressure washer to ensure that graffiti never gets the chance to get a hold in an area. By working with the police in gathering data and recording it on a shared graffiti information database, they are able to determine patterns, and catch offenders.

Rather than waiting for any problems to develop, Swale Borough Council, Kent County Council and the local neighbourhood policing teams keep a keen eye out for any graffiti and make sure that it is removed promptly - and aim to remove racial or offensive graffiti within 24 hours.

Alister Andrews, Environmental Response Team Manager for Swale Borough Council said: “Given that clean and graffiti-free streets are rated so highly by all of us, the Community Safety Partnership continues to search for cost efficient initiatives that not only maintain our current high standard, but improve upon it.”

“We work closely with our Police partners to record tags and track offenders to reduce the number of incidents across Swale.  Coupled with our regular cycle of graffiti-busting, we are tackling the problem head on – making Swale a cleaner and safer borough to live and work.”

To report any graffiti to our busters, call Swale Borough Council on 01795 417850.
